"Before I came out to the Caribbean, I sailed around Turkey where the traditional wooden schooners were very much involved with the country's tourism. These schooners are wonderful to see sailing the ancient routes of trade. Local Turkish shipwrights worked flat out to build these much admired vessels.

With this experience in mind, I decided to apply the same idea here in the Caribbean by building a local equivalent, "the Windward Island schooner". Not just for charter but also to create, what would be for me, the ultimate sailing vessel and my home.

Jambalaya's Framework

To my knowledge, such a vessel had not been built exclusively for the purpose of chartering so a new design concept was needed. In 2000 together with the shipwrights of Carriacou, I came up with a design for a 65ft schooner.

Jambalaya after being Launched
Jambalaya was three years in the building and now She is the beauty to sail I dreamed about. All the difficulties endured, and the long hours of work, make her creation for me the most special of life experiences and I hope for all who sail in her."
